It's Friday and Craig Jones (Ice Cube) has just gotten fired for stealing cardboard boxes. To make matters worse, rent is due, he hates his overbearing girlfriend, Joi (Paula Jai Parker), and his best friend, Smokey (Chris Tucker), owes the local drug dealer money -- and that's all before lunch. As the hours drag on, Jones and Smokey experience the gamut of urban life, complete with crackheads, shoot-outs and overly sexual pastors, concentrated into one single, unbelievable Friday.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

What Friday might lack in taut construction or directorial flair, it more than makes up with its vibrant (albeit consistently crass) humor and the charming, energetic performances of its leads.

Friday | Rotten Tomatoes (1) Michael Rechtshaffen Hollywood Reporter While the character-driven script has a weakness for toilet humor (Mel Brooks would be proud), its inhabitants are given some oddball quirks and tics that keep things percolating when the plot development runs a little thin. Gary Gray chooses to develop tension in this often over-the-top farce in a very unfunny, almost baffling way. Rated: 1.5/4 Apr 26, 2022 Full Review Friday | Rotten Tomatoes (6) Eve Tushnet Patheos Crapping jokes and cussing jokes and look at that lady in her skimpy clothes jokes. I enjoyed this badly, stupidly, as it was meant to be enjoyed. Jun 21, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews

Joel H I'll be the first to admit that Friday was not made for me. I'm obviously not the target demographic. However, the whole time I was watching this movie, I kept wondering how anyone could possibly enjoy it. The plot is basically two guys hanging out on a porch smoking weed. That's about it. And when the humor isn't crass, it's juvenile and predictable. But don't worry if you miss a joke, because they'll repeat it about a dozen times. This is a movie about aimless characters that was made by an aimless director and writers. It was a complete waste of my time and I regret watching it. Bye, Friday! Rated 1/5 Stars • Rated 1 out of 5 stars 05/08/24 Full Review Quentin T Loving this movie.... Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/19/24 Full Review Forged S "Daaaaaaaaaamn!!!" It's been a long time since I've seen this movie, but, this won't be a post about the movie rather, an appreciation for director F. Gary Gray. The first in his massive filmography with such classics like, Set it Off, The Negotiator, Be Cool and Straight Outta Compton, Friday isn't a movie about anything. Yet somehow it's one of the funniest, engaging and most quoted films of all time (even the recent, "Bye Felicia" came from this movie) that helped to launch the careers of so many legendary actors. Is the movie good? Short answer, yes. However, I think the legacy has far preceded the actual quality of the content. Rated 4/5 Stars • Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/10/24 Full Review Augustine J Friday is a funny, funny movie. Ice Cube and Chris Tucker are insane in this movie. I loved this movie a lot. It's a great stoner comedy that manages to say something greater. Check it out. Rated 4.5/5 Stars • Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 12/23/23 Full Review William R.
